Ajit Bhawan
Ajit Bhawan Palace - JodhpurAjit Bhawan was exclusively built for maharaja Ajit singh, the younger brother of maharajah of Jodhpur. It is an impressive red sandstone structure of 1940's with arched windows, carved balconies and cupolas adding to its rugged beauty.
The most interesting feature in the building is the courtyard-a quadrangle with exquisitely carved lattice work. This area comes to life during meal times when Rajasthani delicacies are served by turbaned men and veiled women. Traditional folk music makes the meals more enjoyable.
Lying behind the palatial Ajit Bhawan is a charming village complex. Nestling in a rustic and lush green setting are bungalows named after the months and zodiac signs of the Indian calendar.
Each cottage has been furnished in ethnic Rajasthani style and no two cottages are alike. Well-maintained lawns and thick shady trees make this village complex a haven for birds and humans alike. It really an oasis in the desert city. The family undertakes village excursions in which the visitors get a close view of the local Rajasthani folk life.

Umaid Bhawan palace
Umaid Bhawan Palace - UdaipurUmaid Bhawan palace is a classic example of indo-colonial art deco style of the 1930's. The only palace to be constructed in the 20th century, it was a monumental task performed by three thousand artisans 14 years to create this heritage wonder. a unique feature of this palace is how the hand-chiseled sandstone blocks have been put together in an interlocking pattern without any mortar binding. This even more amazing because the palace is large - 195 meters long and 103 meters wide.
The imposing entrance leads one to lobby adorned with black Belgian marble, flanked by two impressive banquet halls - the Rathore durbar and the Marwar hall. Crystal lamps, mounted shikar trophies in the palm court lead to the spectacular 56-metre high center dome hall. a pair of polished marble stairs lead to the maharajah's private apartments and regal suites.
Rooms are decorated with original furniture. Conference hall, bar, private auditorium, health club and sports facilities are available. The palace museum with its fascinating collection of art facts of the royal age and the palace library are the added attraction here.
