Mandawa
Travel InformationMandawa is one on the finest of the small towns in the Shekhawati region and 152 km away from the city of Jaipur. This ancient feudal settlement not only owns a royal castle, but plethora of havelis where the painted walls never fail to amuse the tourists with their never fading allure. Mandawa was founded by Thakur Nawal Singh, a descendant of Rao Shekha after whom the entire region is named. Today, this little town is also a major center of a handicrafts and furniture industry where a painted archway decorated with Lord Krishna and his cowherds is very popular. The Mandawa Family's collection includes ceremonial costumes and precious arms with handles of jade. The havelis worth visiting are those of Chokhani, Saraf, Goenka and Ladia.
Attractions of Mandawa
Fort of Mandwa
The
Fort of Mandawa is located in the heart of Mandawa town. It was originally
the home of a noble, but now is a heritage hotel that still retains it
medieval theme. The rooms at this palace are adorned with paintings showing
Krishna in his childhood and youth. Besides these paintings, the walls here
have intricate carvings and paintings along with mesmerising mirror work.
Durbar hall, a huge hall in the palace houses a lot of antiques and
paintings. Havelis
Take a tour of Mandawa where numerous ancient Havelis add to the grace of the little town. Some of these are Bhagchandika Haveli, Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli, Lakshminarayan Ladia Haveli, Mohanlal Saraf Haveli, and Chowkhani Haveli that should never be missed when one is on the tour of Mandawa.
Some of the Havelis are mentioned below :
The Binsidhar Newatia Haveli owns lovely paintings on its outer eastern wall which depicts that a boy is using a telephone, and a European woman is in a car being driven by a chauffeur.
The Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli has some defaced erotic images.
Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli is adorned with paintings of Indra on an elephant and Shiva on His Nandi Bull. Right across from it is the Goenka Double Haveli with two gates, a monumental façade of elephants and horses and frescos which are in ruins today.

residences of the Maharajahs of yore create a milieu that's inescapably
attracting. Come and experience. |
The wildlife in Rajasthan is
perhaps as exotic as its culture. Be it birds, mammals or reptiles,
you'll see varieties you'll lose count of. |
