Travel Information
Mandore, situated 9-kms north of the city of Jodhpur, was once the capital
of Marwar prior to the foundation of Jodhpur. Today, this tiny town owns
extensive gardens with high rock terraces turning it into an appealing local
attraction. These gardens also contain the memorials or cenotaphs of Jodhpur
rulers, including Maharaja Jaswant Singh and the largest and finest of all,
the soaring temple-shaped memorial to Maharaja Ajit Singh.
Mandore is considered an oasis in the desert with its enticing laid out
gardens. Mandore a visual treat because of the vast expanses of greenery of
Peepal, Banyan, Palms and Plantains along with cascading fountains and
lovely peacocks.

Ajit Pol
It is the gate that was built as a celebration of Ajit Singhs victory
over the Moghuls in 1707AD.
Hall Of Heroes
It is a wall made out of rock with high altitude with brightly painted
depictions of local heroes such as Pabuji and Chamunda (1707-49). 'Hall of
Heroes' owns sixteen gigantic figures chiselled out of a single rock and the
cenotaphs of the former maharajas of Jodhpur.
Mandore Garden
These are extensive gardens with high rock terraces make it a popular local
attraction and sought after picnic spot. This enchanting garden is a
beautiful place to escape into a world greenery and freshness.
Memorials Of Maharaja Jaswant Singh And Ajit Singh
Mandore, the royal cremation ground has multitudes of memorial 'chhatris'
and temples, both Hindu and Jain, the earliest of which (on the hill) date
from the 8th century. The most appealing are the memorials of Maharaja
Jaswant Singh (1638-78 AD) and Ajit Singh (1678-1731AD), the second of whom
was cremated along with six queens and 58 concubines.
Pleasure Palace Of
Abhai Singh
The pleasure palace of Abhai Singh is an enchanting place which today has a
small museum within its confines. Shrine of 30 Crore Gods. It houses 30
crore Hindu deities, among them Brahma, Lakshmi and Kali, are the most
prominent ones.
