
The
Eklingji City abode of some most beautiful shrines is situated about 12
miles to the North of Udaipur in Rajasthan. Located at a distance of 22 km
from Udaipur, Eklingji is a massive structure encompassing numerous ancient
temples, chiseled out of sandstone and marble. The temple was constructed in
AD 734 to procreate the sanctification of Lord Shiva, the supreme power.
The temples of Eklingji are splendidly modeled and are sanctified to Lord
Shiva, sentinel deity of Mewar. The Maharajas of Mewar - who considered them
selves to be regent (Dewans) under Eklingji, regarded this deity as the
implicit emperor.
Structure of Eklingji
Temple
Bappa Rawal the founder of Mewar regime fabricated the temple of enormous
and enduring pulchritude. This awe-inspiring exquisite temple embodies 108
temples, concomitant with the number of beads in the rudrakh garland used
for meditation.
The Eklingji temple engrosses an area of about 2500 sq. feet and is about
65 feet in height. The temple zone is entrenched with a colossal wall that
is girdling the entire complex. The extensive assembly room inside the
shrine is raised on the profusely designed pillars and also the main gate
way to the temple complex. The hall is embellished with a beautiful silver
structure of Nandi, besides this there are 2 more images in the temple, one
made of black stone and the other of brass metal.
The Deities of Eklingji Temple
The standing complex date back to 15th century is constructed out of the
remnants of a formerly ravished structure. Jain temple architecture of
Gujarat is admirably visible in the building of the Eklingji temple. Whole
temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva with four faces that have four images in
the cardinal direction of Surya, Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra. Other deities
housed in the temple complex include Parvati, Ganesh, Ganga, Kartikeya ,
Yamuna and Saraswathi.
Eklingji a Bustling Town of Temples
The Eklingji town enjoys special significance as it adorned with number of
small and big temples. There are about 70 temples in all. The Sas-Bahu
tempel the most vital shrine made up of marble stone dates back to the 11th
century. It is an admirable specimen of by gone era depicting its
architecture splendor with sculptural trivialities. The Adbhudji Jain temple
dates back to the 15th century is build in black marble. Other temples in
Kailashpuri include those of Pataleshwar Mahadeo, Arbada Mata, Rathasan
Devi, Vindhyavasini Devi.
