Shopping in Rajasthan
Rajasthan
is the treasure house of a breathtaking variety of traditional crafts where
century-old skills still churn out some of the most artistic and thrilling
commodities which are admired and collected not only by connoisseurs in
India but are popular all across the world. Thus shopping in this land of
colours is an out of the world experience and should never be missed. Shopping in cities of Rajasthan
Barmer
Vibrant embroideries, woolen dhurries, and stone carvings are the main items of purchase and Sadar Bazar is the main shopping area.
Bikaner
This
city is known for camel products like leather footwear, and its brilliant
gesso work. Wool carpets and blankets , light cotton quilts, and brilliantly
dyed cotton fabrics are sold in the tiny shops around Kote Gate and KEM Road
where larger shops are available. Jaisalmer
The city is famous for the intricately carved wooden boxes in exciting patterns and motifs. Besides, woolen and cotton rugs and blankets , embroidered fabrics, silver jewellery and trinkets can be purchased from the shops off the cobbled streets.
Jodhpur
People
come from various parts of the country to shop in Jodhpur. Here the main
items of purchase are wooden toys, leather goods, paintings, juttees and
silver jewellery all avilable in the shops in the old city. At the base of
Chhattar Hill, there are shops selling, lovely pieces of old furniture and
artifacts. Kota
This
vibrant city is best known for it's small checked-weave cotton sarees called
Kota doriyas, in light floral prints. Pushkar
the city is famous for fabrics, embroideries, utensils, terracotta pots, trinkets, silver jewellery, camel saddles, blankets, shawls, beads, bangles and other baubles.
Shekhawati
This
region is known for wood carving, metal utensils, made -as-old furniture,
and tie-dye fabrics. Udaipur
One of the principal shopping zones sells paintings of the miniature and pichwai variety, as terracotta tables and plaques. Locally dyed fabrics and textiles , embroideries , wooden toys , white metal objects d'art , silver enamel artefacts, and image of Krishna in the Nathdwara style are also available here.
Mount Abu
Mount
Abu sells a variety of Rajasthani and Gujarati articles - handicrafts of
different categories, textile, Jewellery articles, wooden, marble and metal,
Rajasthani paintings, Leather articles and stone crafts etc. Curious in
marble, sandalwood and sandstone can be bought from the shops around Nakki
Lake. Kota saris, bangles and linen with Sanganeri prints, light weight
Jaipury quilt are also available. For Rajasthani Handicrafts there is
Rajasthali, Rajasthan Government Handicrafts Emporium and Khadi Bhandar,
also there are metal, stone, wooden and clothing handicrafts shops like Fair
Price Rajasthan Emporium, Piccadilly Plaza, Chacha Museum, Kashmir Cottage
Emporium, M/S Bansilal Bhurmal (famous Jaipuri Quilts -light Weigth ). Jaipur

This is the best place to shop in the whole of Rajasthan with its rich treasure of beautiful jewellery, beautiful gems, semi precious stones, kundan and minakari work (enamel work on gold). Women generally go for the beautiful cotton fabric including sanganeri prints, tie-dye, and fine kota doria saries.
The exotic blue pottery, enamel ware and brass ware, make excellent souvenirs and gift items. Woollen carpets and cotton rugs, leather footwear, embroidered Jutes are famous all over the country.
The famous shopping spots are Rajasthali, Johari Bazaar, MI road, Nehru Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, Chapur stalls. The markets are generally closed on Sundays.
