Kumbhalgarh
Fort
Classified as the 'City of Lakes', Udaipur has a great deal to offer to
tourists and holiday makers in terms of architecture, tradition, cuisine and
culture. Whatever aspect you choose, you'll find the city equally
fascinating. Forts, however, have perhaps taken the lead in every single
city of Rajasthan, the land of myths and legends.
Location & Features
The Kumbhalgarh Fort, located 64 north of Udaipur city, represents the
whole of Mewar Region after the Chittogarh Fort. Snuggled up in the Aravalli
Ranges, the Kumbhalgarh Fort was built by Rana Kumbha around 15th century.
The characteristic features of the fort include inaccessibility to the fort
and uncongenial vicinity. For the same reason, the fort remains unconquered.
A Refuge For The Mewar
Rulers
In times of bitter conflicts, the rulers of Mewar used the fort as a
perfect refuge for themselves. Even the baby king Udai of Mewar, at one
time, found the fort a consummate asylum. Most importantly, the Kumbhalgarh
Fort is also significant in terms of being the birthplace of Mewar's
legendary king Maharana Pratap Singh. So, there is not a single significance
that calls for your being here, instead there are too many. So while in
Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh is the one place you would never want to leave without
visiting.
Attractions
At The Fort
The imposing fort of Kumbhalgarh houses a number of senescent palaces and
an array of temples that you would love to appreciate. One of the major
attractions inside the fort is the Badal Palace meaning the palace of
clouds. Besides, there are panoramic views to be had from here as well.
Surrounded by a high wall stretching along 36 km, the fort has an aura of
bygone eras reverberating all around it. The rough and tough look of the
fort is the true essence of this antiquated structure. Tall and proudly
standing edifices do not affect as much one's being as ruins can do. The
fort's large compound has remains that the time has spared. Being at the
fort is synonymous with tripping back in time.
A Luxurious Display Of Heritage
Renovated and refurbished, the fort these days functions as one of the
finest heritage hotels in the state of Rajasthan. It's an initiative to
preserve the past treasures and share it with the world so the nostalgia may
engulf you in a cocoon of luxury and comfort. So what awaits you here is a
heart stirring blend of the classic and the contemporary along with
unceasing views of the countryside.
